Tuesday-Wednesday

Tuesday

Hey! I'm back, and this time, I'm going to Africa. I saw a movie the other day called Invisible Children. It was about these children in Africa who are abducted at the age of 5-12 and then taken off to a camp where they learn to kill each other. There are also some extensions of this film; one was about a girl that was named Grace.

I decided to go to Africa to meet Grace, and lift her spirits. Grace was one of the abducted children, but as a girl, she was used as a sex slave to men that were up to 40 years older than her. Finally, when she was 16, she escaped, only to learn that she was pregnant. She has now had her child, and its name is Opoyo Rwot (Thank God). She is 20 years old now and happily married.

I'm really excited to meet Grace, and I was so jumpy as I got onto the plane that the flight attendants had to calm me down before they let me on. The plane would take me to Pece, in the Gulu District (which, as you may have guessed, is where Grace lives). I really hope that we can do fun stuff together.

Wednesday

Today, I woke up to the sound of singing, oddly enough. Turns out that the singing was actually from school children. I realized how early the children had to get up, and by now they were fully awake.

However, I wasn't and it took me a minute to figure out where I was. Then I remembered Grace and I started filling up my backpack for the adventure we'd have today. Eventually, the backpack was full, and I headed out the door into Pece.

It didn't take long to find Grace. In the movie I saw, it said that she showed all of her emotions on her face, and it was definitely true. Right away I saw someone smiling their heart out with a little girl holding her hand next to her. I new in that instant that this was Grace.

I started to walk toward her, and straight away she knew who I was. Finally we got to talking distance and exchanged pleasantries before I asked her all about her story. She seemed kind of dissapointed; I guess she's really used to recounting her story or just doesn't like reliving it, but she did for me and I'm greatful for that.

At last she finished her story and we headed out for someplace to eat. There were many different places where we could get food, but Grace insisted on going to a little shack. I'm glad she did...

At the shack, we ordered sweet pea soup. It was really, really good. It tasted like peas, as one would imagine, but it also had a lot of spices in it. I looked up a recipe later and found this. I'm really glad she took me there for dinner.

Sadly, the day was over, but on the bright side, there's always tomorrow!!!

I love how you describe her emotions and how she always portrays them on her face
