The UCC was founded in 2005 by Frederick Ndabaramiye and Zackary Dusingizimana to assist handicapped children and adults. In 2007, ten children and adults at the center were picked for prosthetics with funding from PIC, which also funds hot lunches every day for the people from the center.

While I was there, I got to meet Frederick himself! It turns out that he had no arms, due to the genoside in Rwanda in 1994. He was attacked on a bus, and told to kill the other people that were on the bus. If he did, he would live. If not, he would be killed. Frederick refused this order, and the terrorists that attacked the bus cut of both of his arms.
Now, he has learned to use his arms as hands. He can pick things up, eat, drink, dress himself, and shave. He is even a very accomplished artist. I couldn't believe all that he had done, himself, and for other people.
After that, I explored the center, meeting new people, and helping out wherever I could. I was suprized at how many people needed the help of the community center. I wanted to help more, but I couldn't do much at the moment. When I get home, I really want to contribute to the center as much as I can.
At the end of the day, I thought back to what I saw, and I told myself that I wanted to be more like Frederick, in what he does for people. He seemed so kind and brave. And above all, he persevered like no other!
