Today was one of my favorite days. We got up super early (which I wasn't too happy about), and left in Cristian's land rover to get to our flight on time. When we got to the Maasiai town, everyone was waiting for us, and as soon as we got to the ground they pulled all of us everywhere they could. They showed us their houses made of mud bricks and tin roofs. They showed us where they kept their cows: in a corral a little ways away from their houses. Then they took us to their school, where we learned the Tanzanian national anthem:
Mungu ibariki Tanzania
Dumisha uhuru na Umoja
Wake kwa Waume na Watoto
Mungu Ibariki Tanzania na watu wake
Ibariki Tanzania
Ibariki Tanzania
Tubariki watoto wa Tanzania
Translation:
God bless Tanzania
Grant eternal freedom and unity
To its women, men and children
God bless Tanzania and its people
Bless Tanzania
Bless Tanzania
Bless us, the children of Tanzania
While we were there, I noticed a lot of orphans on the streets. When I looked up a charity for them, I found World Vision. At World Vision, you can sign up to sponsor a child for only thirty-five dollars a month. The money goes towards helping the child survive by giving them basic human necessities like warmth, food, and shelter. Where there are sicknesses going around, World Vision helps that child stay healthy.
After that, we joined in a very fast and crazy dance, leaving all of us drained of all energy. Finally, we watched the men of the town drive the cows back into the corrals. Sadly, it was time to go, and we flew back to Kilimanjaro.
