Tuesday

Today I woke up to the sound of Hannah saying, "Good morning!" That's when I remembered where I was. Tanzania! The next thing I noticed was that we were going to go see a volcanoe today. I'd never seen a real volcano before, only read about them and watched them on TV. So when I remembered we were going to the Crater Highlands to see Ol Doinyo Lengai, I ate my brakfast in about one bite.

On the drive there, the road was kinda bumpy. It looked like it was paved in places. Hannah asked what it was, and Cristian said it was the dried lava from the volcano. This was really cool, because I had no idea that the volcano was active! I thought it was dormant as a dornail. When we did get there, it was just about the coolest thing I had ever seen! It was a very majestic mountain, what with being 9,711 feet tall and all. All I wanted to do was take pictures of it, but I wanted to get closer too.

Cristian led us up the mountain, which was kinda scary, what with knowing the volcano was active and all. He showed us to a ledge where we could see straight down into the top. All of the lava was slowly moving around, slopping over the edges occasionally. Once, I almost dropped my camera, but it was on my wrist, so it didn't fall. I could tell Nicole and Hannah were scared, because they were as far away from the edge as possible, but I knew that it was safe and had a great time. However, the only pictures I took of the inside were blurry, so I won't post any.

When it was time to leave, I was a bit disappointed, but cheered up on the way back because Cristian was helping me perfect my Swahili. Finally, we were back at the hotel. We ate dinner and went to bed tiredness taking over us quickly.
